Jonathan grew up in a very strict religious environment. His home, in the depth of the countryside, was situated between a farm and a large forest.
When working on the farm and in the forest during school holidays (and sometimes in term time!) he met some incredibly zany people. He draws upon his memories of these people to build many of the characters in his books.
Television was forbidden, so he and his brothers had to create their own entertainment. Also, along with many other enjoyable things, Christmas was banned, which included any festivities such as presents and decorations. December 25th was just a quiet, drawn out, boring day.
Jonathan attended Hazelwick School and went on to study Musical Instrument Technology at the London Guildhall University. One unit was Creative Writing.
He and his wife live in West Sussex, where most of his stories are based.
